It's quite tempting to put a site within frames. Especialy when there are
so many pages, that making a navigation bar is a nightmare.
But still there are some very compelling reasons not to use frames
Search Engine's Don't like them
- Despite the advances the search engines have made in various fields, they
are still far behind in indexing framed sites. Unless the NOFRAMES tag is used
carefully it can be very hard to get good search rankings.
Visitors don't like them
- Do you like cramped places?. Places too small to swing a cat?.
Most visitors to framed sites feel claustrophobic. If the content is
good enough they will fight it, and go through your site. But they will
never linger and will leave at the first opportunity.
Browsers don't like them
- A very small percentage of older browser are incapable of displaying frames.
It may be a small percentage buy why whould you want to turn away any visitor to your site?.
Bookmarking is difficult.
- You have probably come across this already. You visit a framed site and
book-mark a certain page. Three days later you revist using the bookmark. But you find
yourself a page very different from the one you thought you had bookmarked.
