Memories fade
September 2, 2008
The provincial council election was held just ten days ago, yet it has completely faded from everyone's memory. Last week people were talking more about the heavy rain and how badly the Sri Lankan cricket team did in the ODI series.
The government will be very happy that people are fogetting the elctions - they won it thanks to thuggery and nothing else. One thing that should not be fogotten is how badly the JVP and the CWC performed. Both parties have been blackmailing successive governments claiming to have a huge support base. It has been proven with out any doubt that all of it is a lie.
For both the JVP and the CWC lying is nothing new. Decency is something rate amongst their members, but the JVP is probably the lesser of the two evils - for the simple reason that they are willing to sacrifice ministerial posts for somthing they believe in (even though that thing is wrong), while the scoundrels of the CWC have no qualms about continuing to enjoy all the perks of being a minister while suing the very government in which they are a part of - in essence suing themselves.
Hopefully the UNP and the PA will think twice before they enter into any sort of electoral alliances with these parties , specially the CWC that bearly mustered 10,000 votes. But that's hoping for a lot because when you combine both major political parties together you can't scrape together enough grey matter even for one brain.
