Yet another unheard of village captured.

August 23, 2008

The polls for the Sabaragamuwa and North Western Provincial councils were held today. As expected the government announced the capture of two small villages in the nothern province. The people of Sabaragamuwa or Colombo have never even heard those names before, the people of the North Central Province might have a vague idea about where those villages are but it's extremely unlikely that they have ever been there or will get a chance to go there anytime soon.

In this war with out reporters when the defence ministry says x terrorists have been killed and place y has been liberated we just have to take their word for it. For all we known the army might have marched into a fishing hut just north of Puttalam.

The election also forced Mervin the Vermin to surrender to courts - there was way too much bad publicity for the government with his latest assault on mediamen. The cowardly police chief for his part failed to arrest the vermin but more on that later.

This time around the was slightly hampered by the SAARC summit. Most of their thugs were deployed demolishing houses and shops in and around Colombo whilst at other elections they would normally have been employeed beating up their political opponents. But then they started to catch up for lost time after the summit of tears ended.

The cowardly police force said very few acts of election related violence have been related. The police chief can't tell the difference between an dagger and a hole in the ground so what do you expect?

The elections chief, once hailed as a man of the highest integrety and though of as been fearless as turned out to be a lilly livered coward just like the police chief. He did nothing to prevent the misuse of state resources for election purposes or to halt the thuggery.

It remains to be seen if the UNP can still win inspite of the ballot boxes being stuffed to the brim with bogus votes.
