Off to Great Western.

April 16, 2008

We headed off to Great Western on the evening of the 10th. Driving was a nightmare, every Perera, Silva and Fernando were heading out of Colombo. All the town centers were passed were jam packed with people doing last minute shopping for the new year.

The traffic lasted only till Avissawella. Once we passed that town the roads were mostly clear of vehicles but driving was still extremely difficult because of the very heavy rain. The rain cleared up at Ginigathena. But in the hills when the rain clears you get mist. Even with the fog lights it was nearly impossible to see more than 5 or 6 meters ahead.

The mist cleared close to Hatton but progress was still slow because the Hatton - Nuwara Eliya road is just a road is in such a bad state. Just to make matters worse, my Father's new SUV which we traveled in isn't as comfortable as the old. I never goto great western in my own car the last few Kilometers from Thalawakelle to the estate would simply kill it, since it's road clearence is so bad.

So all in all it took us six hours to complete the journey that we normally complete in four hours. five or six years ago, you could complete the journey in three and a half hours but not any more.

It was when we got there that I found my camera was missing.
