Good bye truth

February 10, 2008

Former minister Sripathi Sooriyarachchi is dead. Just a few hours after his death the police quickly announced that his death was an accident. The very fact that they were so quick to announce ian accidental death is evidence enough that it wasn't an accident. After all the police chief himself once said that police officers in this failed state are incapable of carrying out an investigation.

Sripathi will be sadly missed. He was one of those rare breed of politicians who valued truth more than personal gain. What other reason could there be for him to give up his ministerial portfolio and languish in the opposition without all the perks? That too at a time when the worst crooks amongst the opposition parties did paul vaults and political somersaults to gain ministries.

Sripath along with Mangala exposed the allegations of the secret deal with the LTTE to rig the last presidential election. An year later nothing has happened. The opposition, most notably the opposition leader Ranil , the lost candidate at the last election is woefully silent about the who issue.

Ranil and former president CBK were quick to express their sadness about the death. And that will be the end of it.
