Police kill 48.

January 22, 2008

48 persons have died from the violence in the south. The government blames the LTTE for it. There is no doubt that the LTTE pulled the trigger but the responsibility for those deaths lie with the police.

It was said in the news that several days before the bomb attack on the bus that killed 23 , villagers had reported the presences of armed suspicious persons to the police. The police had not taken any action. In one instance when someone reported seeing 'Tigers' they had asked if the tiger had any spots!

This is not different from the bomb explosion in Nugegoda recently where the police failed respond. The didn't show up even an hour after the suspicious parcel was detected and it exploded.
