Mervin Bashing.

December 28, 2007

Mervin bashing has become a very popular past time specially after yesterday's clash at Rupavahini. Rupavahini, is the flagship in the state media mafia. It's only the most spineless media personal that work there. Or so we though until yesterday.

Mervin Siva, a common thug and close ally of the president decided to beat up a news director at Rupavahini because one of his speeches were not aired. The staff there took great exception to that and decided to beat him up. Finally the man and his bodyguard (a suspect in a murder case) had to hide in a room and the army and the police had to be called up to rescue him.

That shows the sad state of affairs in this country but this is exactly the sort of thing I predicted two years ago. Here we have the police providing protection to a couple of common thugs instead of arresting them. Then again, that's not surprising, we all know that sri lankan policemen happen to be thugs themselves.

As for the mad man, Mervin, he was overwhelmingly rejected by the people of Colombo at the last general election. The then president CBK (who himself had two notorious gangsters amongst her inner circle of bodyguards), asked another MP to resign so that Mervin can enter parliament.
