Marawila

December 7, 2007

On wednesday, I returned from a pleasent overnight stay with my wife and kids at Club Palm Bay in Marawila. It's a nice place right next to the lagoon. The beach is about 100 meters away but it's a pleasent walk.

In fact you need to cross a cause way that runs at the edge of the lagoon to get to the beach. For all appearences it seems that the lagoon is no longer connected to the sea. There is a large sandbar several feet high that runs for hundreds of meters and it seems to have converted the lagoon into a large inland lake with stagnant water.

If I was hoping to see lots of birds I was disapointed. There are crows in abundance but not much else. Typically when crows invade, other birds disappear. This part of the lagoon is somewhat poluted as well. Poluted not with chemicals but with the omnipresent plastic bags and bottles.

The beach though is quite clean and nice and not crowded. You can see the hotel staff picking up the stray bottle and plastic bag and they work hard to make sure that the beach remains clean. The hotel is pretty nice as well and the staff are friendly. Place is definitely worth another visit.
