Be Vigilant.
December 2, 2007
The police , the ministry of defense and heck, even the ministry of transfer is asking us to be vigilant. To be wary of suspicious persons or parcels. And to immediately inform the police about them. What is the use? they don't respond.
Well they will respond for the next few days, people waiting at the corner for buses and taxis or their girlfriends are likely to be bundled into a police car and taken away for questioning. Cars left unattended for a few hours will be towed away.
In a typical knee jerk reaction the government has decided to tighten security in Colombo. That means that they will try to check everyone's ID at checkpoints. It's ok if you have a bomb in the boot but be sure to have your ID. Today they are doing just that. The traffic snarlup caused by the checkpoint on the Kelani bridge stretches for many kilometers. Any terrorist with half a brain will stay home and watch the cricket.
This sort of thing will continue to happen until Murali breaks the record for taking the most number of wickets in test cricket. Then Sri Lankans will forget the bombs. Until the next one.
