Police Responsible for 20 Deaths

November 30, 2007

I am not speaking of the number that died in police custody this year (surely it's more than 20). These 20 deaths are from yesterday's bomb blast. They are due to police negligence rather than police brutality. It was revealed in the Daily Mirror that the staff at the No Limit store had informed the Mirihana police station about a suspicous parcel at 5:00 pm. They had failed to respond till 5:50 pm

At that time a security officer had approached a policeman on traffic duty close to the store and while the two of them were inspecting the parcel it had exploded resulting in the deaths and destruction.

No doubt the officers at the Mirihana station were very busy. That's why they couldn't respond in a timely manner. They have more important things to do. Providing protection for gangsters politicians is surely more important than protecting citizen Perera. After all politicians like to call themselves VIPs.

Those who were not washing dishes in VIP kitchens were probably busy chasing lovers out of parks. Or perhaps they were hiding behind trees trying to catch people driving at 74 Km/h in 72Km/h zones. Or perhaps they were busy drinking free hooch.
