STL ADSL

November 24, 2007

Because getting a Dialog WIMax connection is like pulling teeth, I decided to try and obtain an SLT ADSL connection. Already have one here, this is for the new house that is still under construction.

Before you get SLT DSL you need to get an SLT fixed line. If working with Dialog is like pulling teeth, working with SLT is like pulling teeth without anesthesia. I obtained an application from the SLT Teleshop at Wattala (you cannot download it). When I returned to hand over the completed form, the moron tells me that you cannot do so there, I need to submit it at the Battaramulla Teleshop or the Havelock Road office (because the new connection is for Battaramulla)

SLT that company that claims to off a 'metro ethernet' solution has apparently forgotten to connect up their offices and teleshops. So my wife had to trudge with the application to their Battaramulla office. So what have the morons there told her? You need to take the application to the Kotte office!

One of the reasons that Sri Lanka is still a third world country is because SLT had a monopoly on the Telecommunications until the late eighties. Those days you had to wait years (some people had to wait as long as 5-10 years) to obtain a telephone. Things have improved but not by much.
