The curse : how many more years?
November 19, 2007
When former president CBK went on the election circuit she called the seventeen year reign of the then UNP government the seventeen year curse. We have now completed two years of President Gotabaya Basil Mahinda's reign. This two year curse is much worse than the seventeen year curse.
If the UNP did anything to hamper the country's progress and drag us back to the dark ages during those seventeen years, Chandrika did worse during her eleven years. Mahinda in his two years has dragged us so far back that we are almost back to zero. We are now the buddhist version of Iran.
Many people are hopefull that the budget vote to be taken up in parliament today will be defeated and will lead to an election possibly ending this reign of terror. Unfortunately that will not happen. Mahinda has the JVP over a barrel and as sure as the day follows the night the JVP will abstain from voting.
The cardboard heroes of the JVP do not have the courage to face another election so they will not vote against the budget. They will not support the budget either because they will not be able to face their supporters if they do.
