If you are a Sri Lankan don't buy a Macbook.

November 13, 2007

Ever wondered why Macbooks aren't all that popular here in Sri Lanka? it's because of poor customer service by the agents.

On a previous day, I had some good things to say about EPSI's unimaginatively named iStore (Apple retailer). Scratch that out. I called them the other day when my father's macbook failed to boot up. The receptionist sounded most annoyed at having to answer the phone. The customer service executive or whatever they call the morons who handle this type of call sounded as if they are doing us a big favour by selling us Macbooks.

Naturally I was less than impressed with EPSI so I took the darned thing to BT Options. They are no better. They have been sitting on it for nearly a week now and each day promised to call me the next day and tell me what's wrong with it. Well if they take so long to figure out what's wrong with the macbook when it's a well documented known issue they probably don't have anyone with double digit IQ amongst their staff. If that's not bad enough, they want Rs 2,500 up front as a service fee (even though the computer is still under warranty).
