I am very sad to say the last of the Galle Fort Burghers passed away last Thursday.

Anton Ferreira, former teacher of St. Aloysius College was well past 80 when he survived the boxing day Tsunami. The tsunami caused extensive damage to his house, which is nearly twice as old as he was. Somehow he managed to repair it and was living in that same house when he passed away.

Unfortunatley i didn't get to hear about it until late Friday evening and as a result could not make it to Galle for the funeral which was held on Saturday morning.

I have met him only on a handful of occasions but he left a lasting impression on me and I am saddened by his passing.
