A school at last

July 9, 2007

Finally managed to find a school my elder daughter. Getting your child into a good school in Colombo is something you have to work really hard at and even then it doesn't always work out. So we were really pleased when she was selected to enter Bishop's College first grade next year.

Last year we applied to enter to enter her into Musaeus college. Apparently my wife and I fulfill all their requirements. To our immense suprise our daughter was not selected to the Kinder Garden. We are not alone. Children of many highly qualified professionals apparently suffered the same fate. Yet children of Mudalali's have been accepted. We were not given any reason and naturally we were and still are thoroughly disgusted wtih that school so we didn't apply for grade I.

Of the handfull of schools that we applied to we didn't even get a reply from some of them. Those schools only admit children from certain religious groups. And to my utter disgust not a single application form had a check box for Atheism. You had to select from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism or Islam. So I pretended to be a buddhist. But this is iran where atheism is illegal Sri Lanka what do you expect?

Some of should sue the ministry of education - hang on a second someone has. More on that later.
