University of Colombo.
July 5, 2007
Yesterday, I Stepped inside the University of Colombo for the first time in 7 years. How the place has changed. Every square inch of ground seems to be covered by new buildings. The Computer Science department that used to occupy one building now occupies two of them both cast from the same hideous mold. One can only assume that they churn out twice as many bookish graduates.
Somethings change, some things remain the same. The venerable Math department building; a landmark of Colombo is as it always was - a sight for sore eyes. But the place seemed empty as were many other buildings. The reason this is vacation time. I dropped into the chemistry building to see if any of my old lecturers were around but didn't run into any.
While a student there certainly wasn't any love lost between the lecturers and good old me. I was a trouble maker. No that's not right. I was the only trouble maker out of the 20 students who were eligible for the chemistry special degree. Since playing the fool isn't much fun I always dragged my friends along with me.
Later on I found out that the department likes it's rebels. I don't suppose you remember a student because he was very attentive in class. You are more likely to remember him if you noticed that he is always skipping lectures.
