A glimmer of hope.

July 2, 2007

A drowning man will clutch at straws and for all optimistic Sri Lankans there is now a glimmer of hope created by the actions of a couple of notorious politicians.

A couple of years ago, it would have been hard to imagine former ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Sooriyaratchchi as being the saviours of the nation. They should infact accept part of the blame for the sad state that this country is in. An in fact they have done exactly that and go beyond that. They have both apologized for their part in helping Gotabaya Mahinda win the presidential election. What's more they have exposed the part that the LTTE has played in that election.

If their actions don't save the country, it certainly will save the drowning opposition leader. But as always, the JVP, the organization that always tries to drag Sri Lanka back to the dark ages (they have taken us halfway there), is doing it's damnedest to prevent the alliance of the moderates in the SLFP and the UNP.
