Photo Printer.
May 27, 2007
I went out and bought a Cannon Pixma ip1700 photo printer. There are better printers about and I don't normally buy canon because most of their equipment is not linux compatible. This one isn't fully compatible either but it's compatible with my macbook.
So why did i buy it? it's cheap. Having to spend a lot of money on housebuilding means I cannot afford expensive toys. I almost changed my mind when I went into the Metropolitan (local agents for canno) show room. The salesgirl firmly believes that all it takes to close a sale is a large pair of boobs. Now that is a sexist remark and I haven't made even a single sexist remark on this blog for so many years so you must excuse me and believe me.
I almost decided to walk out and by an HP. But hang on a second? who is the local agent for HP in Sri Lanka? I don't know, who ever they are they don't advertise. So I went ahead and bought the darned thing anyway and brought it home.
So what's the verdict? The prints appear to be a touch dark and the canon software is bloody awful. I am not suprised about the print quality. Canon would want their printers to work well with Canon cameras but I wouldn't be suprised if they intentionally made them work poorly my Nikon D70s. Fortunately increasing the brightness by about 10% does the trick.
Last but not least I was thinking about whether this post should be in my geek blog or here. Decided to plant it here because this is more of a gripe about Sri Lankan customer service than really about photo printing.
