Good news: Sri Lanka Loses World Cup.
April 29, 2007
Sri Lanka has lost the cricket world final. We should be thankfull for that. In the wee hours of the morning very few people in Colombo was watching the final being played out. There was no power with in the city limits and in some of the suburbs. So they entertained themselves by watching fireworks in the sky.
Pretty soon though it because pretty obvious that it wasn't fireworks but tracer bullets. Colombo's third air raid in a month was under way. We had the second air raid just two days ago but none spoke of it yesterday. Cricket was the only subject on everyone's mouth. The managing director of the Rajapaksa Brother's (Pvt) Ltd. had even rushed off to the West Indies on his private plain (maintained by the public) to watch the match and to bask in reflected glory.
If the match had been won, even this air raid would not have lingered in the public memory. As Prabakaran once said, the Sinhala People have a very short memory.
