Cricket's deja vu

April 14, 2007

Went to see my mother-in-law for the new year and got back just in time to see the last three overs of the South Africa vs New Zealand cricket match. It gives you a deja vu feeling.

In the last world cup held in South Africa, the home team tied with Sri Lanka and that knocked them out of the tournament. This time they managed to avoid the tie thanks to the Sri Lankan camp and the captain in particular forgetting to use their kidneys but it looks like a repeat of the last NZ vs RSA clash is on the cards.

The last time around South Africa batted first and put up a total that was just a few runs too short. Then a lot depended on the SA bowling attack and Pollock and Ntini on paticular. Those two did their jobs pretty well but the others didn't. Once again we are sure to see Polly and Ntini going at the New Zealanders with six guns blazing. But the question is what happens when their ammo runs out? we will find out in half an hour.
