Today is world wetlands day. The Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha is celebrating it in style.

(Rough translation of Pradeshiya Sabha: the municipality of the Kaduwela area (covers the important suburb of Battaramulla)).

A couple of decades ago, Main Street battaramulla was not much of a street. Then they filed up some of the low lying area by it's site and build the 'Sethsiripaya'. A government building which among other things houses the several ministries and the Urban Development Authority.

The other half of the street contained a few small shops and behind the small shops was a marsh. Most of it was filled up over the years. They missed a bit here and there. So now they are crossing the Ts and dottings the Is.
