The Religous Right

January 28, 2007

The religous right is at work again they are trying to pass new laws to make it illegal to 'misuse images of the buddha'. Imaging the can of worms that will open up. Really if that law is to be passed (or existing laws made tougher). It's the very members of the religious right that ought to end up in jail for using buddhism for petty gains and distorting what lord buddha preached.

Thousands of ancient buddhist temples have been vandalised and continue to be vandalized today by treasure hunters. You never hear of a monk speaking against that. Most of the treasure hunters are powerfull politians and the monks either lack the courage to speak out against them or they are hand in glove with them.

While new laws are being passed, they should pass a law against using loudspeakers at religious places. (Or come to think of it, they should use the existing laws regarding the use of loudspeakers). Almost every temple and mosque in the country seem to try to outshout each other with the use of loudspeakers.

The templest closest to my place is a in a bad neighbourhood full of junkies, hooch merchants and god knows what else. Fat lot of good the deafening noise of religion has done them.
