The Violent Enemy.
January 24, 2007
The Violent Enemy by Jack Higgins is another good afternoon read. Like Alistair Maclean, he started of really well. I particularly liked To Catch a King (under his real name Harry Patterson) was good, but the more famous he became and the more money he made the worst his writing became.
His speciality after all is the forgettable thriller. I am pretty sure that I will forget this book in a weeks time. In all his books the hero is usually an Irishman and towers above the rest of the cast physically and metaphorically. The difference this time around is that he has an equally capable police officer to contend with and indeed the book begins with a description of our hero's life in dartmoor. And it ends with his getting away to safety.
