Mahinda Chintanaya has had a devastating effect on tourism. Come to think of it Mahinda Chintantaya has had a devastating effect on most things Sri Lankan but it's effect on tourism has been terrible.

Sri Lankans have been fleeing the country since Mahinda came to power. To be fair Sri Lankans have been fleeing the country long before that but the exodus gained momentum really rapidly since Mahinda became the president. Before long we will have a negative population growth rate, what with the contribution from the north east war and random bombings. So who can blame foreign tourists for keeping away?

There were a few budget travellers in Sri Lanka in December, but then two bombs went off in buses. Budget tourists usually travel by bus so many of the packed up and left. The south coast is the worst effected. Serves them right too.
