An year of misrule? rather a continuation of 57 years of misrule. It would be unjust to say Sri Lanka has Mahinda's first year in the hot seat is the worst that the country has ever seen. CBK, her mom and dad would share the top spots and Mahinda might even have to sneak past premadasa. However the gap isn't large Mahinda has a huge string of achievements.

More than 3,000 people (including, MP, Generals, foot soldiers and civilians) have met a violent end during his first year.
The navy has lost numerous boats and the army many a battle tank.
The A9 has been closed once again and the break down at the Maradana junction (which happened when the president was the prime minister and minister of transport) has not yet been fixed
Dragged the country's name through the mud because of the government's poor human rights record and the allegations of supporting the breakaway LTTE Karuna faction (and it's child recruitment).
Watched while a group of scammers aquired a 5% stake in one of Sri Lanka's largest companies.
Depreciated the rupees by about 10% while increasing inflation to more than 10%

That's just the tip of the iceberg. What's really interesting is the opposition leader's reaction: He is cheering from the grandstands and wants to join the field as a substitute.
