Dropping Standards.

September 1, 2006

Everyone complains that standards are dropping. With the politicians leading by example, and millions of lazy and weak citizens eager to follow them, it shouldn't come as a suprise.

You will easily notice such dropping standards when you attempt to claim a warranty on any product that you have just purchased. If you bough a computer or computer parts from unity plaza you might just as well forget about the warranty altogether.

Many shops and small businesses always find an excuse to avoid replacing goods under warranty. Some companies completely disappear from the face of the earth after selling low quality stuff for a few months.

Consider the executive chair I bought a couple of years ago. Last saturday, I just sat down to reply to a few mails and the chair just collapsed. Fortunately I fell sideways instead of backwards so no harm was done.

The warranty period has expired, but for something as serious as this, you should still be able to claim comphensation from the manufacturer or the shop. Unfortunately that's exactly what you cannot do, here in Sri Lanka. This particular shop is now closed and the manufacturer simply cannot be tracked, because this chair is one that has been imported but does not contain any labels that identify the original manufacturer!
