Rewriting history.
July 12, 2006
It's now a couple of months since the Statue of loney queen victoria was dumped at the Victoria Park (oops, Vihara Maha Devi park). The Dept of archeology is supposed to do something about it, if they are two cowardly to bring the vandals to justice, they should have at least done something to safe guard this statue that was on the verge of melting due to acid rain. (Well they must have done something at least belatedly.)
No one knows what has happened to the boulder with the portugese coat of arms, perhaps it has been crushed and integrated into the rubble foundation of a tsunami house.
It seems president Mahinda, a full blooded Sinhala is hell bent on earasing all traces of foreign occupation of Sri Lanka. It's going to be a lot of hard work, but then again since he seems to devote so little time to address the pressing issues facing the country, he must be having a lot of time on his hands.
Destroying statues and historic buildings and changing street names they are all steps in the right direction. But he will need to persuade Millions of Sinhala people named Perera, Fernando, Silva, Alwis and Cooray to change their names. He can start that right at the parliament or perhaps with the Leaders of the JVP and the JHU.
Surely a Sinhala nationalist like Tilvin Silva of the JVP can easily be persuaded to take up a Sinhala Name? How about Thalwila Singhgho? Hang on a second that red blooded sinhala name Singhgho is a corruption of singore
Btw, what about Percy Mahinda?
