The joy of victory and the agony of defeat.

My world cup is over. My world cup? Sri Lanka isn't even playing in the world cup finals, never have and it doesn't look like they ever will, so Brazil is my team at the final. Brazil has always been the team that I supported, it was really disapointing to see them lose 3-0 to france eight years ago. It's worse seeing them lose 1-0 at the quarters.

I never watch TV, but yesterday I spent the whole day in front of it, first watching the cricket and then the football. The cricket started off well, then some indifferent bowling, bad umpiring, unimaginative captaincy, good batting and an shirt front pitch meant England managed to post their best score of the series.

The fact that the pitch was a batsmen's paradise meant Sri Lanka was always in with a chance and after two breathless overs the result was a forgone conclusion. At the end of 2 overs England had only 1 run, Sri Lanka had 28 and the gap just kept widening and widening and widening until the incredible win with 12 overs remaining. If Sri Lanka had batted first, the record for highest one day team total would have been reclaimed.

The excellent batting by the Sri Lankans meant that I didn't watch all of the England vs Portual match. Unfortunately for England they fair any better at the football. If you ask me, Lampard should not have taken the first penalty. It should have been taken by someone who had more confidence, it would have taken pressure off the others. Anyway, I didn't want England to win cause Brazil would find it easier against Portugal, instead now France will find it easier!
