Pratunam and the camera shop
April 8, 2006
After catching about 25 winks at the Bangkok Palace it was time to go out to lunch. We went the park century as guests of my father's business associates/friends. I am not sure if the Park Century is five star but the restraunt that we dined in is heaps better than the ones in the five star hotels of Colombo. The meal was really excellent.
After lunch it was time to go shopping. One of the few things that I had planned to by in Thailand was a new telephoto lense. I need something bigger than my battered and bruised 300mm Sigma. My D70S is made in Thailand and my other camera an FM10 was present from my father on one of his previous trips to Thailand.
After walking into two different camera shops at a mall called the MBK, I was sadly disapointed. The prices are about the same as the price I might expect to pay at Photo Technica in Colombo. Which is a bit suprising. I checked the prices at the duty free as well (both in colombo and bangkok) and once again they are no different from Photo Technica prices. So the only thing I ended up buying was a CF card. That was definitely a lot cheaper.
After MBK, all of us went off to the Pratunam market where clothes are supposed to be pretty cheap. Cheap they were but the quality wasn't very high. By this time everyone's nerves were slightly frayed from jet lag, lack of sleep and the very hot weather and my three year old was doing her best to annoy everyone. So the three of use decided to leave the others to their shopping and took a 'tuk tuk' back to the hotel.
