Bangkok

April 4, 2006

I spent the last weekend of March in Bangkok. This is my first visit abroad in years. Because of the busy schedule since getting back to Sri Lanka, I didn't get a chance to write anything about the trip up to now. But better late than never so hear goes.

The Cathay Pacific flight itself was scheduled at an awkward time 2:55 in the morning. With the Colombo airport, it's usually recommeneded that you arrive three hours ahead of departure time, so my whole extended family made it to arrived at the airport at around midnight. That meant a sleepless night for me, in fact I spent about a 36 hour period with out sleep.

My little daughter was the only person who found flying to be an exciting experience but after three hours of sitting still, she had enough of it and it was very difficult to persuade her to put on her seat belt for landing.

Overall flying Cathay is a far more enjoyable than flying Sri Lankan. Though Sri Lankans are known the world over for their hospitality, Sri Lankan seems to reqruit the most surly and unfriendly staff as their cabin crew.
