Who is the president?
January 30, 2006
Less than three months after the presidential election was concluded there is great uncertaintity about who is the president of Sri Lanka.
The man who won the election Mahinda is probably the president, but he certainly is not following the 'Mahinda Chintanaya'. The Mahinda Chintanaya wasn't exactly his manifesto but he didn't present one so many people assume the chintanaya to be his manifesto.
Ranil is the man who lost the election thanks to the LTTE, but it's is manifesto that the official president is following, so you can say the Ranil really didn't lose the election.
For example Mahinda and his cronies promised a unitary solution to the ethnic conflict while Ranil promised a federal solution. The Sinhala translation of the word Unitary is great for sound bites and federal just sound horrible. Now Mahinda is all for Indian Style develoution. 50% of sri lankan have double digit IQs and they voted for Mahinda. You cannot expect them to know that India has a federal form of government.
While still speaking of India, Many people say the real president of Sri Lanka is the Indian High Comissioner Nirupama Rao. When she tells a minister, an editor or a company CEO, they usually ask "How High"
