According to the editor of the Sunday Leader the former president Chandrika was once thinking of killing an editor or two. Now according to the same editor, president Mahinda has gone one step further and actually called him up and threatened him.

A highly sanistized (and translated) version of the conversation that took place between the two have been published in the Sunday Leader. He is said to be in posession of a tape recording of the conversation as well. The story is doing the rounds that he has sent copies of this tape to various diplomats for protection.

Though the plots that frequent that pages of the leader may at times appear to be far fetched, this threat is not entirely unbelievable. The former terrorist organization the JVP which did the donkey work for president Mahinda at the election has certainly killed an editor or two.
