Send us another tsunami.

December 28, 2005

It's been an year since the Tsunami ravaged our shores. We deserver another.

While people from all over the world rushed to help, Sri Lankans rushed to rape and loot. While foreign governments poured in billions of rupees in aid, our government poured in obstacles to aid distribution.

Tons and tons of food were sent from abroad, they were stored in warehouses and allowed to rot while those in refugee camps starved. When people livin the camps wanted to rebuild their houses the government imposed a 'buffer zone' rule in clear violation of UN guidelines. People with political backing more often than not disobeyed the buffer zone rule while people without the right connections still languish in makeshift tents.

Hundreds of millions of rupees were donated by various agencies for rebuilding. Most of the money was embezzeled. Little bits of money, food and materials were pilfered at every step of the distribution chain and only peanuts were handed out to the refugees.

Non Government Organizations and charities that built houses were forced to hand them over to government agencies, the agencies then chose backers of the political party in power as the recipient of the houses.

The current president, who was the prime minister when the tsunami struck had five hundreds acres of forests in hambantota cleared for relocating people because of the buffer zone.

The PM them want onto place himself at the center of a scandal involving the Helping Hambantota Fund. He wiggled out of it by getting a court order temporarily preventing it's investigation. Now as president he has immunity and need not goto courts for any hearing.

Hundreds of thousands of brain dead tsunami survivors for the Prime Minister just because he is a man from the south. Now many of these people may end up being conscripted with Eelam war IV about to start.
