It's often said that the Tsunami was a punishment. Two thousand years ago was when Sri Lanka was hit by a tsunami for the first time in recorded history. The king at the time was said to be unjust.

Last year when the tsunami you would have been hard pressed to find a worst set of democratically elected rulers anywhere in the world. Even before a week has passed since the elections, we have floods.

The most recent presidential elections were far from democratic. The LTTE prevented more than million people from voting and ensured the victory of the war candidate. As the war candidate Mahinda has been telling us the LTTE wants war. There's no better way to start a war than to elect mahinda for president.

One of the major thrusts of the Mahinda campaign was the cost of living. Lazy Sri Lankan voters firmly believe that handouts and subsidies are the remedies for a high cost of living.

Even before the new cabinet has been sworn in the price of cooking oil has been raised by more than 5%
