The first official act of the outgoing president CBK was to break one of her election promises. Before CBK came to power we had a hugely bloated cabinet with nearly every member of parliment from the ruling party (at the time it was the UNP) being a cabinet minister.

CBK promised to limit the cabinet to 20. Then she appointed a cabinet of 24 and kept adding to it.

The new president is following in his predecessor's footsteps by breaking promises and doing the exact opposite for what is expected.

Take for example the budget. The government's budget for the next year was presented just days before the election was held, which is unethical to say the least. Before and after the budget was presented, Mahinda and his hanger-ons said all the salient points of the election manifesto were incorporated into the budget - they weren't

Now almost immidiately after assuming office, the president says, a new budget will be presented.
