JVP wins election thanks to the LTTE
November 18, 2005
The JVP candidate Mahinda Rajapaksha has won the presidential election, thanks mainly to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
On the surface the JVP is dead set against the LTTE, they oppose the current ceasefire and the peace process. For many years the JVP has been spreading the lie that the UNP will devide the country giving the North and East to the LTTE to form their own state - Eelam.
The JVP has on more than one occaision alleged an alliance between the LTTE and the UNP, a secret pact. Now the question begs asking, is there a secret pact between the LTTE and the JVP?
The votes from the North and East were set to tip the scales in the UNP candidate Ranil's favour. However the LTTE called for a boycott and prevented these people from voting. As a result, the Mahinda managed to scrape through, but only just. Add the North East votes and the outcome would have been entirely different.
More than 257,000 people voted for the TNA at last years general elections, prediction were that if a free and fair election is held all these votes would be in favour of Ranil. As it is the margin of victory is only 186,000 votes
