This is the final countdown.
November 17, 2005
Voting to choose the next president of Sri Lanka has just ended. The same election will decide whether Sri Lanka becomes a marxists state. We will soon learn if the war that will result in the division of the country will resume. Counting of the ballots has begun.
The recurring theme on the JVP candidate's (Mahinda) platform was about an alliance between the LTTE and the UNP that will result in a division of the country. Ranil, they said will give Eelam to the LTTE on a platter. Though many a Sinhala Buddhist idiot believe that lie, the LTTE does not think much of it. The LTTE have prevented people in the North and East from casting their vote.
The people of the North and East are said to favour Ranil. The LTTE preferrs Mahinda because with a hardline government they can get more sympathy in Europe. The LTTE is also confident that they cannot be militarily defeated and should war break out, it can only result in a victory for the LTTE or their return to the negotiating table in a position of strength.
By about midnight, the first results are expected to be announced, the final result is expected by noon on the 18th. The first results will be a good indication of the country fate.
