Voting underway.
November 17, 2005
So it has begun, the count down t making the world's third marxist country has started. We all hope that it wouldn't go that way but the average Sri Lankan is too stupid to know what marxism is. Many still think the Soviet Union exists and still is a communist country.
Though the run up to the election wasnt' all the violent (unlike previous years) the election day is all about thugs holding sway.
Stories doing the rounds say voters in Piliyandala (one of the most populated suburbs) are being intimidated by the JVP. Which just goes to show that the JVP which opposes negotiations with the LTTE hasn't forgotten their own past.
Other stories say, Mahinda's supporters have distributed leaflets that appear to have originated from the CWC (upcountry tamil's party) asking them to vote for Mahinda. Stooping to such lows is not unexpected. Others say stuffing of ballot boxes and intimidation is happening in Nawalapitiya (a town in the hill country).
Another sotry is that a policemen has been assaulted in Battaramulla. That goes to show that not all politicians are bad.
