Photo and Video Expo

November 13, 2005

Attended the photo and video expo today. It was a total waste of time and money.

The event was marketed as something that would appeal to any photography (or videography) enthusiast. So my father dragged me, my wife and even the kid along to see the show. Like the weather the show was a damp squb.

The main entrance to the exibition hall is the usuall place where ticket counters are placed. Once you go through the main entrance there is another doorway that you have to pass through to see the exibits. There stood a security guard firmly demanding to see everyone's 'pass'. After inquiries a ticket counter was located, after coughing up Rs 50.00 each you are given a temporary id tag that just says visitor so much for that.

With such poor organizing you can expect the show to be a failure, it was. There were hardly any stall that catered to the consumer or retail market. But there we huge digital presses used to print lifesize banners and cutouts. There were file processing equipment. I even met my cousin having a stall for his web design company.

The only stall that I found attractive was by the local agents for Nikon. They had both the D2X and the D70 on show. The D70 was priced at Rs 120,000 (US$ 1200) for that price, I can buy a ticket to dubai, buy the camera at jackey's for $850 and still have a little bit of cash left over.
