Emptying the treasury.
November 8, 2005
As this post is being typed, the Minister of Finance is reading out the governments budget. The minister is one the few people in this government who isn't a big fan of subsidies. He has openly criticised the economic policies of the alliance partners' (JVP) economic policies.
However the election is around the corner. The prime minister Mahinda Rajapakshe is the JVP's candidate at the election. Rumours were that the budget would be a series of hand outs along the lines of the economic policy.
I have not been listening to the budget, reading the summery in tommorow's paper would be easier, but from sounds that drift across from the TV, it does sound like a series of hand outs.
So the main pastime of the countries, main political parties; emptying the treasury continues with renewed vigour.
