extortion at greenlands
October 30, 2005
Greenlands is a 'Thosa Kade'. Thosa is the Sinhala word for Dosa, a popular South Indian food. Thosa Kades are dime a dozen in Sri Lanka but what's different about Greenlands is that it tries to position itself as an up market Thosa Kade.
On sunday, went to the beach near Kinross and Wadiya, and afterwards walked into Greenlands not to pick up Dosa but to buy some String Hoppers and was promptly ripped off.
Since String Hoppers are cheap, I didn't bother to ask the price before ordering, it was after the bill was punched in that I realized to my dismay that one String Hopper is priced at Rs 5.25. For that price I can eat String Hoppers in five star comfort.
It would have been ok, if the service was good, I had to wait more than 15 minutes to collect the 'Strings', and before leaving shared a piece of my mind with the cashier, and promised never to come back. To them it would not be a great loss, I don't go there often anyway.
Many years ago Greenlands was a traditional indian restraunt that didn't serve alchohol or meats. All that has been pushed into the dustbin along with the service.
