Carboard Hero : Somawansa

November 3, 2005

Only one senior from the JVP inspired insurgency of the late eightis survived. That one person is Somawansa Amarasinghe the current leader of this former terrorist organization.

At the time Somawansa fled the country supposedly with the aid of a Senior UNP politico. It was against a UNP government that the JVP pointed their guns. During the process thousands of Soldiers and Policemen were killed. Now at a recent election meeting in support of the JVP candidate Mahinda Rajapakshe, Somawansa has insisted on disbanding the army.

The motely crew of monks and other sinhala/buddhist extremists who advocate a return to war have maintained their silence. Mahinda is their common candiate too. No one has yet explained how the government is going to fight the LTTE without an Army.

Somawansa first returned to the country a few years ago to campaign at a previous election. The president who accused the JVP of killing her own husband chose not to have him arrested. However Somawansa fled the country again before the election results were announced fearing a UNP win and being arrested.

Now Somawansa, is back from England apparently for good. Now he makes his speeches from behind a bullet proof glass.
