Respecting Copyrights - The Sri Lankan Way.

August 29, 2005

We all know that Sri Lankan newspapers are made by gutless editors and journalists. We also know that they pay lip services to copyrights and intellectual property but think nothing of grabbing articles off the web and publishing them as their own works.

What I didn't know was that they didn't bother to fully read the articles that they are supposed to have written. Take for example the 'rear mirror' suppliment of the Daily Mirror of 27th August. It carries an article on page 3 titled "Following Distances". And towards the end of paragraph 10 it says:

For information on driving in winter conditions, click here

A dead give away.
It does not take a lot of effort to dig up the original article. It's at http://www.driveandstayalive.com/info%20section/following-distances.htm
and right at the top of that web page it says:

All contents copyright ©, Drive and Stay Alive, Inc., 2003, unless specified otherwise. All rights reserved.

So much for respecting copyright.
