Wimpering about Sethusamudran
August 26, 2005
What do Policemen, Enviorementalists, newspapers and politians in Sri Lanka have in common? They can all be bought. Often for a nominal fee. That would explain why we have not seen so much as a whimper against the sethusamudran project. On the other hand in India thousands have been detained at various times for demonstrations.
As we all know generalizations and not universally true, there are always exceptions. So news of demonstrations in Colombo against the project came like a breath of fresh air.
The peace process according to the monks will result in the division of the country. Some people with single digit IQ actually believe that. The same monks who protest against the drawing of an imaginary line on a map are silent about the drawing of a line several hundred meters wide and hundreds deep through the palk straight. A line that would totally destroy the fragile eco system of the Nothern and North Western coastlines.
