Thondaman Where are you now?
August 12, 2005
The Ceylon Workers Congress, the party headed by Thondaman insisted that not going ahead with the upper kothmale project is a precondition for extending their support to the government.
The government's coalition partner and former terrorist organization JVP has already quit. So why does the CWC continue to offer their support when yesterday's newspapers carried a photograph of the contract for the project being signed?
It's quite obvious that for Thondaman and other members of the CWC being a minister is more important than saving a couple of waterfalls.
With the term of the presidency due to end this year and the days of the parliament being numbered, the government is keen to sign as many contracts as possible during the short time left.
It was to this end that the first brother (the one who thinks the prime minister is stupid, the same one who speaks rubbish) went to china recently. It was followed soon after by a presidential visit. Both events were preceded by a visit to Sri Lanka by the chinese premier. The end result of all this is that the Coal Power project is going to a chinese company.
Lots of money will surely be wired to switzerland as well.
