Monk ends Farce
June 11, 2005
There are two political parties always looking to fish in trouble waters. Unfortunatley for Sri Lanka they are no averse to troubling the water when the fish do not bite.
So it came to pass that a monk from the JHU started a farce unto death against the so called Joint Mechanism with between the tigers and the government. They called it by a different name - a fast unto death but as we shall soon see cow manure by any name is only good for mucking the fields.
A farce unto death is quite a popular way of imposing your will on the weak kneed and lily livered governments of Sri Lanka. If a government server wants higher wages all he has to do is begin a fast unto death. That means you cannot eat or drink during the day time. It's perfectly acceptable to eat and drink after all the gawkers and reporters have retired to bed.
Things didn't go exactly as planned this time around. The government didn't rise to the occaision primarily because the president has gone so far out on a limb that there is no way for her to back out now.
As the minister of enviorenment pointed out, if she backs out now, she would become a liar. Well it wouldn't be the first time, but this would be the first time that her ego would be so severly bruised since becoming the president. That's why there isn't any backing out.
Fortunately for the monk the chief prelate have come to his rescue, they have asked him to give up his farce and who is he to disobey?
