Fuel Prices up again.

June 7, 2005

So the prices of petrol and diesel have been raised again. That is no longer news in many countries but here the story is different. Sometime ago, the minister of power and energy categorically stated that the price of petrol and diesel will not be raised. This is the fourth increase since then.

You may say that a raise in fuel prices is unavoidable because the way the price of crude is going up on a daily basis. This government however came to power promising to 'unplug' the world market from the local prices.

To be more precise while the previous government was in power they said "What use is a government if the local prices are dictated by world market prices?". So now we ask what use is this government.

Even with the price rise we continue to subside rich arabs (whose favourite pastime is the rape of ri Lankan women working in the middle east as domestic aids) to the tune of millions of dollars each month.

Similarly the government is unable to purchase paddy at the 'gauranteed price' because the treasury has been emptied with a gigantic subsidy on wheat flour. The beneficiary? american farmers with farms even larger than Sri Lanka in size. And to think the main coalition partner is a marxist party.
