A news item says a monk was convicted of raping a thirteen year old girl at a sunday school. For some time buddhist monks have been agitating to have private tution classes and sporting events on sundays banned. Now we know the reason why.

A follow up news item states that the same monk swallowed poison upon hearing the sentence. Just a few weeks ago, there was another new item about the young boy, a student monk who had been hospitalized after having been raped by senior monks.

This is not the first time that such things have happened, and they will continue to happen with increasing regularity as long as are large section of the public, blinded by faith continue to believe that the monks can do no wrong.

The truth is monks are the bane of buddhism in Sri Lanka.
