The president's brother Anura, is often a great source of embarrasment for the president and her government. Tbough the president was reported to have said to the newspapers "Anura speaks rubbish", it appears that he does occaisionally speak sense.

The asian tribune has attributed this statement to him:
"You heard that the prime minister has said they would go ahead with the ban irrespective of who opposes it. I mean it is not a question of who is proposing it or who is opposing it. If the idea is stupid, the idea is stupid".

He is of course speaking of the government's proposed 'no construction with in 300m of the shoreline' ruling. The controversial buffer zone. Nearly a month after this ruling it is not clear yet whether it has been passed by parliament or the people who owned land in this region will be comphensated.

The effected people are not the only ones opposing this high handed act. The United Nations High Commision for Refugees opposes it, enviorementalists oppose it, hotel trade opposes it. Unfortunately for all of them, they forget that the president recently said that she does not care two hoots about oppositions, in other words she does not give two hoots about democracy.
