Christmas and the bane of Buddhism.

December 26, 2004

Yesterday was christmas day. Today is full moon poya day a buddhist holiday. Yesterday was christmas, an event that occurs once an year. Full moon happens twelve times an year sometimes thirteen. So you might think buddhist temples would organize their pagents and other processions for today and not yesterday. You are wrong.

Last evening, the Baseline road, that runs from one end of the city to the other was completely blocked off by a pagent that took place on christmas day. A pagent organized by a buddhist temple. This is nothing but clear attempt to antagonize the Christian population of the country.

Buddhist monks allege that many churches are unethically converting buddhists to their faith. The truth is people are converting to other religions because of the activities of these same buddhist monks.

These very same buddhist monks have unfortunately converted to hinduism (even though you cannot really convert to hinduism). With in many of the buddhist temples you will find statues of hindu dieties.

Others may argue that the monks themselves have converted to christianity. How else can they celebrate anniversaries based on the christian calendar and not the buddhist calendar.
